Gynecomastia is not just a cosmetic issue..
Boys and adult men suffering from gynecomastia are often hesitant to share their plight with family members due to embarrassment because sometimes they are laughed at and are asked forget it and just move on with the life because they think it is normal to have a little bit of breast tissue compared to the other boys but, that’s no big deal as it doesn’t harm you physically. However, gynecomastia is a big deal for young boys and adults because it crushes their self esteem, pulls them back from a rich social life, it is like an insult to their masculine identity acting as a mental barrier for them because, deep in mind they have this insecure feeling that they will be ridiculed by others when they take their shirt off and people will think that they are not man enough. Male Breasts (Gynecomastia) : Not Just a Cosmetic Issue

Gynecomastia is a condition characterized by abnormally enlarged male breasts. There are multiple origins of the disorder. Some of them are congenital and some are acquired. One of the most common causes of Gynecomastia is related to the endocrine system, and caused by excess female hormones. Gynecomastia can also occur simultaneously with testicular tumors and Kleinfelter's Syndrome. Steroid use can also contribute to the presence of gynecomastia, as steroids create an influx of testosterone, which the body reacts to by producing more female hormones which consequently results in a more feminine breast. The relation to steroidal consumption explains why gynecomastia is more prevalent in bodybuilders. There are also multiple medications which are strongly correlated with incidences of gynecomastia: Propecia and digitalis are among the most well-known. Some with elevated testosterone are susceptible to gynecomastia, but it does not necessarily develop in everyone with a hormone imbalance. In a survey, boys with gynecomastia were compared to healthy, unaffected peers of the same age and gender with respect to physical, social and emotional well-being. The adolescents with gynecomastia were found to have significantly lower measures of mental health, self-esteem and social functioning. Boys with gynecomastia also had higher rates of disordered eating thoughts and behaviors than their peers. In some cases, when gynecomastia is present, there is a need for an endocrinologist to rule out any other hormonal disorders.

Solution to the Problem: The condition of over-developed or enlarged breasts in men, is common in men of any age. It can be the result of hormonal changes, heredity conditions, disease or the use of certain drugs. The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. You can happily go home either on the same day of the surgery or an overnight stay may be required. All the normal activities can be resumed from next day.
